Crabtree Falls is probably Virginia’s best-known waterfall hike. The hike is located a short distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Riverwalk Trail / Blackwater Creek Trail in Lynchburg is one of the most popular trails in the city. Following along the winding Blackwater Creek and built along an abandoned railway bed, this 3-mile paved trail is perfect for jogging, walking, or biking. It travels through a lovely urban forest and intersects with two smaller paved trails, the Kemper Street Trail and the Point of Honor Trail. You will experience old railroad tunnels, outside cooking areas, a lake, and waterfalls along the way.

A few minutes from the Bed & Breakfast, this trail begins at Piney River in Nelson County and follows the river 1.8 miles to Roses Mill in Amherst County. It crosses back into Nelson County down river just below the confluence of the Piney and Tye Rivers passing under US Route 29. The trail meanders through the countryside , affording views of rolling hills and farms. Little evidence of civilization meets the eye. Wildlife and wildflowers are abundant and the trail provides a safe, aesthetically pleasing walking experience.
