It travels through a lovely urban forest and intersects with two smaller paved trails, the Kemper Street Trail and the Point of Honor Trail. You will experience old railroad tunnels, outside cooking areas, a lake, and waterfalls along the way.

It crosses back into Nelson County down river just below the confluence of the Piney and Tye Rivers passing under US Route 29. The trail meanders through the countryside , affording views of rolling hills and farms. Little evidence of civilization meets the eye. Wildlife and wildflowers are abundant and the trail provides a safe, aesthetically pleasing walking experience.
